The Client
A major American defense contractor and industrial corporation with core manufacturing concentrations in weapons and military and commercial electronics engaged Sevenbrook to help with its SharePoint based intranet implementation.
The Situation
The client was exploring using SharePoint for its intranet and collaboration platform. SharePoint was only in Beta at the time and the client was eager to start implementation. Microsoft had very little to nonexistent content on MSDN or TechNet about SharePoint application programing interfaces (APIs) let alone best practices. Critical to the solution was a custom identity management (IdM) integration solution that would allow for SSO where possible, but then waterfall use of Active Directory, LDAP, and DB before displaying an anonymous user experience.
The Solution
We developed custom Membership and Role providers for SharePoint. The effort was complex due to the various IdM stores that required testing. SharePoint was reverse engineered to determine how to design and implement the solution.
The Benefits
Employees of the defense contractor now get the right information, to the right people, at the right time to find answers in and insights. Various users were able to authenticate to SharePoint regardless to where their identity was.
